Cancer survivor turned MMA fighter

FullSizeRenderIn the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) world of Calgary, Keegan Oliver has become a household name. Although he’s accomplished a lot inside the cage, it’s what he’s accomplished outside the cage that makes his story unique.

When Oliver was just two years old, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer. According to Oliver, the doctors thought he had beaten the cancer after one year, but was diagnosed again when he was five.

The second time around was a lot more serious, but Oliver managed to fight it off and become cancer-free.

Through all the chemotherapy and other various treatments, Oliver became partially deaf in both ears, and still is to this day. He says he’s okay with it because it saved his life.

“I’d rather be alive and deaf than dead and hearing.”…
